Via the internet, I've been trying to keep track of the fashion movement in the Philippines, and it's been really exciting. I mean, people are wearing rocking horse shoes. That's fabulous. Not to mention these outfits are amazing.
And the fashionisto-men? Not too shabby either!
Holy crap, guys. As much as I enjoy the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles and Hollywood-- if the opportunity pops up when I can get involve in the current pop culture/fashion/art in the Philippines and can get my butt back home, I'M TAKING IT! (Plus, so much closer to Japan, too XD) Every minute that I'm not home makes me feel like I'm missing so much. I have faith that we'll emerge as a leading, culturally sophisticated Asian country one of these days... and I want to see it first hand!

H&M opened their first store in Southern California today in Pasadena. Of course, I had to be there, even if it meant skipping class this morning! They were also giving away $300 gift cards to the first 100 customers. Unfortunately, my friend and I didn't leave early enough to make it in the first 100 people. There was actually a line the weaved around the entire block!
We at least got there in time to NOT be behind the line in the picture I took. I had originally thought that the opening was at 10AM, and I was there at 9AM. As it turned out, the store didn't open till noon, and we pretty much stood in line for three hours. I know. It's nuts-- but I fell in love with this store when I visited it in San Francisco, so it was worth it!
Though I did spend more time in line than I actually did inside the store, because I had to run to work. I wasn't as hard core as all the other people who completely ditched their responsibilities for fashion and shopping sakes. It was a whole lot of fun though. There were even H&M bodyguards-- how great are they?
The downfall to H&M, is that a lot of their clothes are mostly aimed for the Fall/Winter season. Our part of the state? A little too warm for all that, honestly.
Either way, we were still excited about it all! The H&M workers were very good at livening things up and getting everyone happy and less cranky for having to stand in line under the blazing sun for so long.
My friend, Lisa, shows her fashion frenzy when we finally got inside the store. We were the first couple of hundred people that got to go in and go crazy in there. There were a lot of press and photographers going on. A photographer at the stairs tried taking pictures of me, but I was just blasting off into the clothes in full speed! I didn't care if I got my ugly mug plastered in some magazine or newspaper... I wanted my clothes!
But it was shopping frenzy in there, my friends. They didn't have the dress I had wanted to buy, so instead, I bought a blouse which I will probably post pictures of later. I like this grand store opening craze! I've stood in line for geek events (you know... midnight showings for Star Wars and all that), but never for clothing stores.
I plan to be at the openings of the Orange County H&M stores, of course.
One of my favorite beauties to look at is Mika Nakashima, and her style. She's a Japanese celebrity, mostly known for her singing, and now her acting role in one of Japan's biggest box office hit, NANA.
In addition, my favorite music video of hers is for her song "Seven", because I am in love with all the clothes she wears in it. She looks so leggy!
Admittedly, a lot of people complain that Mika looks way too sknny, and a lot of times, I'd have to agree. Nonetheless, she has a very unique face from most Japanese girls and I find her absolutely stunning. She manages to pull of so many different looks-- from classic, concervative; to punker chick; to wearing dreadlocks and beads. Always-- she looks AMAZING!
Enjoy the video by the way. I really think it's one of her best!
